Shahbaz is a contemporary abstract Patternist and Expressionist artist whose practice explores geometry, repetition, color, and the language of love as fundamental elements of human experience. Through abstraction, he investigates the relationships between nature, humanity, and the universe, seeking to reveal the underlying patterns and structures that connect all forms of existence.
Central to his work are the triangle, square, and circle—elemental geometric forms that serve as the foundation of his visual language. Recurring throughout his paintings are intricate patterns inspired by epitrochoid and hypotrochoid geometries, forms he first encountered in childhood. What began as an early fascination with their infinite possibilities has evolved into a defining aspect of his artistic practice. Through repetition, rhythm, and layered construction, his works explore continuity, balance, and interconnectedness.
Color functions as an intuitive and emotional force within Shahbaz's practice, reflecting the expressive principles of Expressionism while remaining grounded in the structural discipline of Patternism. Guided by lived experience, memory, and emotional states, his paintings combine geometric precision with instinctive mark-making, creating visual spaces in which form and emotion coexist.
Inspired by nature, cosmology, sacred geometry, and the textures of everyday life, Shahbaz approaches painting as both an act of exploration and contemplation. His work seeks to transform invisible systems and universal patterns into visual experiences that invite reflection on the shared connections between the individual, the natural world, and the cosmos.
Although he initially pursued a conventional career, his passion for art never faded. Years later, driven by a deep desire to follow his true calling, he enrolled at the prestigious Sir J. J. School of Art in Mumbai, India, where he completed his course and began to explore and develop his own unique artistic skills, strengthening his resolve to become an artist.
In 2025, Shahbaz presented a solo exhibition in collaboration with Starbucks in Mumbai, India, introducing his contemporary abstract practice to a wider public audience through a cultural partnership. He continues to develop a body of work that explores the intersection of Patternism, Expressionism, and geometry through an evolving abstract practice.
Artist Statement
My practice exists at the intersection of contemporary abstraction Patternism and Expressionism. Through color, geometry, and repetition, I express the interconnected rhythms of nature, humanity, and the universe.
For me, Patternism is more than the repetition of forms; it is a visual philosophy. Patterns exist everywhere in nature, in the universe, and throughout human existence. They reveal continuity within apparent chaos and suggest that everything is part of a larger interconnected order.
The visual language of my work is built upon the triangle, square, and circle. These forms appear everywhere—in nature, throughout the universe, and in our everyday lives. As children, we are first introduced to the world by drawing these basic geometric forms. These universal geometries become the foundation from which more complex structures emerge. Through repetition, they dissolve the idea of a fixed beginning or end, creating compositions that evoke movement, rhythm, continuity, and permanence rather than conclusion.
Recurring throughout my paintings are intricate patterns inspired by epitrochoid and hypotrochoid geometric forms. I first encountered in childhood. What began as a fascination with their infinite possibilities has evolved into a defining element of my visual language. Rooted in the principles of sacred geometry, their slow and deliberate construction becomes a meditative process where repetition embodies patience, rhythm, and balance.
Heart forms appear throughout my compositions, expressing the idea that love is everywhere. It exists in all forms, throughout the universe, waiting to be noticed. Love is not something external, we are not merely surrounded by it, but are also made of it. Through flowing structures and repeating motifs, my work expresses love and harmony.
Color is an intuitive and emotional force within my practice, expressing the emotional language of Expressionism. Each painting is guided by lived experience, memory, the emotional state present at the moment of creation, and inspiration from nature, the universe, and textures encountered in everyday life, connecting personal feeling with a universal experience.
My paintings are not intended to provide fixed narratives. Instead, they invite contemplation through rhythm, repetition, and color, encouraging viewers to slow down and engage with the work through their own perceptions and experiences. Ultimately, my practice is an ongoing exploration of how abstract form can express both personal emotion and universal connection, creating spaces where structure and feeling exist in balance.
